A Forum for Machine Learning and AI

About me
This is a forum for discussion of current issues in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Inelligence, Cognitive Science, Cognitive Psychology and the Philosophy of Consciousness. I know that that is a tall order, but with your cooperation we are going to keep some kind of a discussion going. By the way, what qualifies me to moderate this discussion is only that I was a Ph.D. student in Computer Science at Georgia Tech, and still have a consuming interest in Artificial Intelligence/Cognitive Science and, moreover, I have an interest in writing popular science. I will request my expert essayists and reviewers to keep their content intelligible to scientists in other areas, without satisfying accuracy.
What I'm interested in:
  • Machine Learning
Inductive learning; Data Mining; Case-based Learning; Learning by Example; Adding constraints to rule bases;Learning in Neural Networks; Learning from mistakes; Pattern Detection as opposed to Pattern Recognition; data mining. [This is by no means exhaustive]
  • Artificial Intelligence
"Smart" algorithms; faster search engines for the Web producing more relevant answers; Shape memory' malleable descriptions of objects active objects/agents. Neural networks for pattern recognition.
  • Cognitive Science & Philosophy
Modeling cognitive phenomena such as vision;visual routines and pre-attentive vision; "Consciousness Explained"; Paradigm Shifts, AI and ML; What does "Learnability Theory" say? Where did the "Societies of Mind" go? Can AI ever be real (see Dreyfus)?
